Clinical Services: Frequently Asked Questions
1. Q: What do your evaluations consist of?
A: UMACC evaluations consist of three, approximately 3-hour appointments and an additional three hours of chart review and report writing time plus the option of a school visit if within a reasonable range. The first appointment is a parent interview. You do not bring your child to the first appointment. During this appointment, our psychologist will gather detailed behavioral and developmental information about your child. The second appointment involves assessment, observation, and interaction with your child. Our psychologist will test your child's verbal and non-verbal cognition, social and communication skills, play, and other general abilities. The third appointment includes an additional hour of testing and an hour of feedback with the clinician. We use standardized diagnostic tools as well as standardized developmental and cognitive tools. When the assessment has been completed, you will receive a comprehensive report in the mail. This report will include your child's diagnosis, test results, and recommendations.
2. Q: Will my insurance cover the cost of an evaluation?
A: UMACC is not currently an in-network provider for any insurance plan. However, you may be covered at out-of-network rates. You will also need to check with your insurance provider to determine if they will provide coverage.
3. Q: What if my insurance doesn't cover your services at all?
A: If you have limited or no insurance coverage, we have a Family Assistance Plan based on need. If your family qualifies, we may be able to cover 25%, 50%, or 75% of our fee. Ask us for more information.
4. Q: Will you bill my insurance company?
A: Because we are not in-network providers for any insurance plan, we cannot submit claims to them directly. We ask that you submit payment upon your first visit to our clinic. At the end of your third appointment, we will provide you with forms that you can submit to your insurance company. You will be responsible for submitting the claim to your insurance provider.
5. Q: How do I schedule my child for an evaluation?
A: Call our clinic coordinator at (734) 936-8770. An "intake interview" will be conducted during which we will gather brief general developmental and behavioral information about your child. This interview is conducted over the phone and generally takes about twenty minutes. There is no charge for this interview, and it implies no commitment on your part. When the interview has been completed, it will be reviewed to ensure that UMACC is the appropriate place to address your concerns. Once you have decided that you would like to have your child evaluated at UMACC, we can schedule the appointments.
6. Q: Does UMACC provide post-evaluation services?
A: Yes. There are a number of different services that UMACC can provide post-evaluation. We are able to provide treatment to individuals designed to target specific skills and behaviors. We have an adult, teen, ,pre-teen boys and girls, as well as young children's social skills groups. UMACC also provides follow-up consultations to schools and programs.
7. Q: Who conducts the evaluations and provides intervention services?
A: UMACC evaluations are conducted by our fully licensed, Ph.D. level clinical psychologists, Dr's Catherine Lord, LeeAnne Green-Snyder and Fiona Miller . Evaluations and intervention services are also conducted by post-doctoral fellows and interns. Since UMACC is a training center, our clinicians train students, and students frequently are involved in our assessments and provide follow-up services.
