Diagnostic Evaluations
One of the primary research interests of UMACC staff is diagnosis of Autistic Spectrum Disorders (ASDs) and the further development of standardized diagnostic instruments. Diagnostic evaluations are completed by licensed clinical psychologists, or trainees under supervision of a licensed clinical psychologist. Diagnostic evaluations include a standardized parent interview, a standardized observation measure, cognition or developmental assessment, and speech/language tests. In addition, records are reviewed, and a report is written. Families may also request a school visit following the assessment. The primary goals of the comprehensive evaluation are to determine diagnosis, determine developmental skills, and to obtain a thorough understanding of the child in order to provide follow-up services. The entire evaluation consists of three, three-hour appointments.
