Social Group for Boys

When : Every other Friday, 4:30-5:30pm

Where : UMACC, Victor Vaughn Building, 1111 E. Catherine St., Ann Arbor

UMACC offers a group for boys age 9 to 12 with high functioning autistic spectrum disorder or Asperger Syndrome.

The Social Group for Boys focuses on building common social interaction skills, such as conversation, perspective-taking, and sharing interests. Social group meetings combine brief skill instruction and practice with fun, interactive activities, in which participants get to use their social skills in a more natural way. Activities in group are selected to be enjoyable, age-appropriate, and interesting. Group leaders provide positive reinforcement and feedback to the participants throughout the structured activities to further emphasize the social interaction skills. At the end of each session, the group does a fun activity designed to give them an opportunity to use the skills they have learned. The boys will choose to have game time, where they play various board games in small groups, or to do a group project, such as building a webpage or inventing a game of their own.
